Matthew 7:24-27(Luke 6:46-49)

The parable of the wise and the foolish builders have more meaning than may

appear at first glance. In this study we will see the amazing prophecy, promise,

and warning God has for His children.

Before starting please read both versions of the parable

1 – First and foremost, who is the Rock? – Psalm18:2, 1 Corinthians 10:1-4

Christ, our Lord, is the Rock and the Truth. All foundations, all decisions, all families

must be firmly planted on the Rock.

2 – How do you become wise? – 2 Timothy 3:15, 1 Corinthians 3:19, Luke 6:48

The one and only way to become wise is to dig deep into God’s Word and search for

ourselves the wonders God is wanting to show us and open up for us.

3 – What does the house represent? – Genesis 7:1, 1 Timothy 3:4, Hebrews 2:3-8

Google Online Dictionary – Definition of House -the members of a religious community living together -an official assembly having legislative powers -aristocratic family line

4 – What does wind represent? – Jeremiah 25:31-33, 4:11-13

Wind represents strife, commotion, “wind of war”. This represents not only the daily struggles and the hardships of day to day life, but also represents the strife that God’s people will experience in the time of the end. Without this firm foundation of not only the knowledge of truth but a deep, close relationship with our creator and redeemer.

5 – What does the flood waters represent? – Genesis 7:4-7

The flood waters represent a time of judgment. In Noah’s time it meant the time of end. So also in our time does it mean the same. A message went out to the world in Noah’s time and a message is going out to the world now. The message is the three angels’ message.

6 – What does the sand represent? – Matthew 6:19,20, Hebrews 12:1

As tempting as it can be to rely on the things of this world, the plain and simple truth is we cannot take it with us. When we rely on ourselves we may be comfortable for a little while but in the end we cannot save ourselves.

7 – What does it mean to fall? – Proverbs 11:5-7, Luke 6:49, Revelation 18:2

To fall means to be lost. You being involved in this lesson right now means you are not lost. God is not willing that any should perish but that all should live forever. To fall means to be outside of the presence of the Lord as the wicked will be in the end.

8 – As we totally give our lives to Christ, we are then in a partnership with Him. What is our role? Matthew 6:24, James 1:22-25

In this partnership with Christ we must be doers of the Word not just hearers. By the grace of God we are to live as Christ lived, in the world but not of the world. All our decisions, all of our actions should reflect the life of Christ and the grace of God.

Notice there is a part we play in the salvation relationship. We must ultimately make the decision for Christ. We must build our lives and our circle of influence upon the solid Rock. This can never take place if we continue to live in the world and build our house upon the sand.
